Our Ocean Pool and Poolside Bungalows

The newly revitalized Sheraton Kauai Resort has two fresh-water swimming pools. The brand new Ocean Pool is located just steps away from Poipu Beach and our Garden Pool is set amidst the gardens and koi-ponds in the resort's Garden Wing.

Poipu Beach

The quarter-mile, crescent-shaped, white sand Poipu Beach fronts Sheraton Kauai Resort. Long a favorite beach of Kauai residents for its sunny weather and crystal-clear ocean waters, Poipu has been ranked in the 10 Best Beaches in Hawaii by several publications. Most recently Poipu was named the #1 Beach by Doc Beach in USA TODAY and the #1 Best Family Beach by the TRAVEL CHANNEL. The ocean conditions are mild most of the year except for an occasional storm or swell, making this a popular beach for swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing.

The marine wildlife at Poipu is plentiful and varied, and not all of it is underwater. The resorts most frequent return guest, Kimo, is an endangered Monk Seal who stops to rest and sunbathe on the beach almost weekly. From December through April, whale watching is great from our beach and even better from our ocean front rooms as 40 ton humpback whales spout, breach and in general frolic, right in front of our hotel. Mothers give birth and spend the winter and spring months teaching their babies about fin and tail slapping communication techniques, thrilling our guests with their antics. Pods of Spinner Dolphins often trail in the wake of fishing/snorkeling boats and Green Sea Turtles, another endangered species, can be seen swimming just offshore.

Beach Activities

The Beach Activities Center is located next to the Beach Pool and provides complimentary towels for both pools. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Beach Activities Center offers a variety of beach equipment such as suntan lotion, snorkels, masks, fins, boogie boards, umbrellas, beach chairs and cabanas for purchase or rental. They also provide snorkeling and scuba lessons by appointment. They can arrange for surfing lessons, Diver Certification, dives, charter fishing and other water sports.
